HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Michael Lubelfeld, Ed.D. on the occasion of his retirement as superintendent of North Shore School District 112 on June 30, 2026; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Lubelfeld has built a distinguished and deeply impactful career in public education spanning more than three decades and marked by a steadfast commitment to students, educators, and the broader community; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Lubelfeld served as superintendent of North Shore School District 112 from 2018 to 2026, with his total service to the district spanning 21 years and including his role as principal of Elm Place Middle School, where he began his administrative career after first serving as a dedicated classroom teacher; and

WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Dr. Lubelfeld earned a reputation as a thoughtful and visionary leader whose steady guidance, integrity, and unwavering focus on students helped to shape a culture of excellence and care within the district; and

WHEREAS, During his tenure as superintendent, Dr. Lubelfeld guided District 112 through a period of significant change, modernization, and growth, always placing the needs of students at the center of decision making and inspiring confidence among families, staff, and the community; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Lubelfeld played a key role in advancing the district's Long-Range Facilities Plan, including the modernization of Northwood and Edgewood Middle Schools and major improvements to Indian Trail, Ravinia, Sherwood, Braeside, and Wayne Thomas Elementary Schools, leaving a lasting physical and educational legacy for future generations; and

WHEREAS, Under Dr. Lubelfeld's leadership, the community approved a 2022 referendum that secured $114.4 million in funding to modernize elementary schools and expand access to air conditioning, updated learning environments, and hot lunch programs across the district, reflecting the trust and respect he had earned from those he served; and

WHEREAS, Under Dr. Lubelfeld's guidance, District 112 achieved strong academic results, including record-high student proficiency in English language arts and mathematics, and all nine schools earned High-Reliability School certification, demonstrating a sustained commitment to excellence; and

WHEREAS, During Dr. Lubelfeld's tenure, Indian Trail and Braeside Elementary Schools were recognized as National Blue Ribbon Schools, further highlighting the district's success under his leadership; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Lubelfeld led District 112 through significant challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic and the aftermath of the July 4, 2022 Highland Park tragedy, with compassion, resilience, and a focus on communication, collaboration, and support for students, staff, and families; and

WHEREAS, Beyond his work in District 112, Dr. Lubelfeld has contributed meaningfully to the broader field of education through mentoring future leaders, delivering professional presentations, and co-authoring five books on educational leadership, student voice, professional growth, and leading through change; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Lubelfeld is widely admired and cherished by colleagues, students, and families alike for his optimism, accessibility, humility, and genuine belief in the transformative power of public education; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Lubelfeld's legacy in District 112 includes strengthened schools, improved facilities, a unified and forward-looking vision, and an enduring commitment to the success and well-being of every child; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Michael Lubelfeld, Ed.D. on the conclusion of his exemplary and inspiring career in public education, and we thank him for his dedicated service to North Shore School District 112 and the profound and lasting impact he has made on students, educators, and the community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Lubelfeld as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
