HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Domestic violence is a pervasive and devastating
3crisis that impacts individuals across all demographics, but
4its intersection with systemic racism and misogyny creates
5unique, disproportionate, and heightened dangers for Black
6women; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Black women face significantly higher rates of
8domestic abuse, psychological aggression, and intimate partner
9violence that are often compounded by historical inequities,
10societal neglect, and a lack of culturally competent support
11systems; and
 
12    WHEREAS, The safety and well-being of Black women are
13continuously undermined by a continuous spectrum of harm,
14ranging from pervasive microaggressions and daily
15interpersonal aggressions to overt physical and fatal
16violence; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Black women who achieve high levels of education
18and professional success are not immune to these harms, and
19they are frequently targeted with distinct forms of
20aggression, resentment, and hostile actions aimed at
21undermining their achievements, autonomy, and security; and

1    WHEREAS, Economic independence is one of the most critical
2avenues for individuals to escape abusive domestic situations,
3yet Black women face persistent discrimination, systemic
4barriers, and professional attacks within business and
5employment sectors that jeopardize their financial stability
6and safety; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Eradicating the scourge of domestic violence
8requires proactive, systemic intervention at every level of
9society, particularly within educational institutions where
10foundational attitudes regarding relationships, respect, and
11equality are formed; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
13HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
14we unequivocally condemn all forms of microaggressions,
15interpersonal aggressions, and physical violence that
16contribute to domestic violence perpetrated against Black
17women in the State of Illinois.
