| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate the De La Salle Institute | ||||||
| 4 | boys soccer team, the Meteors, on winning the 2025 Illinois | ||||||
| 5 | High School Association (IHSA) Class 2A State Championship; | ||||||
| 6 | and | ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, The Meteors secured the first state championship | ||||||
| 8 | in program history with a thrilling victory over the | ||||||
| 9 | Washington Community High School boys soccer team, the | ||||||
| 10 | Panthers, in the IHSA Class 2A State Final Tournament held in | ||||||
| 11 | Hoffman Estates on November 8, 2025; and | ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, The Meteors completed an outstanding season with | ||||||
| 13 | a 25-3-1 record, demonstrating extraordinary determination, | ||||||
| 14 | teamwork, and resilience throughout the 2025 campaign; and | ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, The Meteors captured the state title in dramatic | ||||||
| 16 | fashion following two scoreless overtime periods and a | ||||||
| 17 | penalty-kick victory in the championship match; and | ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, The Meteors' Cesar Solano secured the | ||||||
| 19 | championship-winning penalty kick for the team, while fellow | ||||||
| 20 | players Fidel Orozco and Christian Flores also converted | ||||||
| 21 | penalty kicks to help secure the historic victory; and | ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, The Meteors also achieved success thanks to the | ||||||
| 2 | efforts of Alex Panduro, who scored a regulation goal in the | ||||||
| 3 | championship match, and goalkeeper Gianni Luque, who delivered | ||||||
| 4 | key saves during the penalty-kick period to preserve the | ||||||
| 5 | team's victory; and | ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, The Meteors' championship season came one year | ||||||
| 7 | after the program's second-place finish in the 2024 IHSA Class | ||||||
| 8 | 2A State Final Tournament, reflecting the perseverance and | ||||||
| 9 | dedication of the team's student-athletes and coaching staff; | ||||||
| 10 | and | ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, The Meteors were led by Head Coach Francisco | ||||||
| 12 | Martinez, a proud alumnus of De La Salle Institute, who | ||||||
| 13 | provided outstanding leadership and guidance throughout the | ||||||
| 14 | season and helped lead the team to its first state title in | ||||||
| 15 | school history; and | ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, The Meteors were further led by assistant coaches | ||||||
| 17 | Carlos Nunez, Antonio Maldonado, Julio Martinez, and Tom | ||||||
| 18 | Schergen, who all played an instrumental role in developing | ||||||
| 19 | the character, discipline, and athletic excellence of the | ||||||
| 20 | team's student-athletes; and | ||||||
| 21 | WHEREAS, The Meteors' student-athletes represented their | ||||||

| 1 | school, the City of Chicago, and the State of Illinois with | ||||||
| 2 | sportsmanship, integrity, perseverance, and pride throughout | ||||||
| 3 | their championship season; therefore, be it | ||||||
| 4 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 5 | HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 6 | we congratulate the De La Salle Institute boys soccer team, | ||||||
| 7 | the Meteors, on winning the 2025 Illinois High School | ||||||
| 8 | Association (IHSA) Class 2A State Championship, and we commend | ||||||
| 9 | the players, coaches, families, and school community for their | ||||||
| 10 | collective efforts in achieving this historic moment; and be | ||||||
| 11 | it further | ||||||
| 12 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 13 | presented to De La Salle Institute as an expression of our | ||||||
