HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Roxy
4Karyl Taylor, who passed away on April 11, 2026; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Roxy Taylor was born in Kansas City, Missouri to
6Frances Shelton and Murriell Umble on September 27, 1940; her
7life was further shaped by the love and care of Louise and
8Walter Hubbard; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Roxy Taylor's journey took her from Kansas City
10to South Bend, Indiana, before arriving in Chicago, where she
11spent over ten years singing in various jazz clubs; she was
12married to Keith Taylor for 17 years and built a family; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Roxy Taylor cherished connections and loved to
14socialize, and her warmth, laughter, and presence made every
15space feel like home; she lived a life filled with rhythm,
16resilience, and radiant love; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Roxy Taylor made St. Louis, Missouri her home
18beginning in 2001; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Roxy Taylor had a love for music, especially
20jazz, and held a deep appreciation for legends such as Dinah

1Washington, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, and more
2recently, Anita Jackson; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Roxy Taylor was preceded in death by her parents;
4her brother, Ray Bowles; and numerous, nieces, nephews,
5cousins, goddaughters, and dear friends; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Roxy Taylor is survived by her children, Roslyn,
7Stacey, and Keith II (Robin); her grandchildren, Alexandria
8Taylor, Takara Taylor, Kadijah Delgado, and Jalen Taylor; her
9great-granddaughter, Alaiyah Beauzile; and her siblings,
10Beverly Reed, Linda Gerber, Leigh "Jayne" Lewis, and Pamela
11McShan; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
13HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
14we mourn the passing of Roxy Karyl Taylor and extend our
15sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew
16and loved her; and be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Roxy Taylor as a symbol of our
19deepest sympathy.
