HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Adrienne L. Adams, M.D.
4on her historic election as the first Black woman to serve as
5president of the Illinois Psychiatric Society; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Dr. Adams earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biology
7from Oberlin College and a Doctor of Medicine from Wayne State
8University School of Medicine, completing her residency in
9psychiatry and a child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at
10the University of Illinois Chicago; she earned a Master of
11Science in Clinical Research from Rush University; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Dr. Adams is a psychiatrist at Endeavor Health
13Medical Group and serves as training director for the
14Department of Psychiatry's Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
15section at the University of Illinois College of Medicine; she
16holds the position of clinical associate professor in the
17Department of Psychiatry at the University of Illinois College
18of Medicine Rockford as well as associate professor-adjunct in
19the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Rush
20University Medical Center in Chicago; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Dr. Adams is board certified in addiction
22medicine by the American Board of Preventive Medicine, board

1certified in child and adolescent psychiatry by the American
2Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and board certified in
3psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology;
4and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dr. Adams has received numerous professional
6honors and awards throughout her career, including the
7American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
8Outstanding Mentor Award, the Illinois Psychiatric Society
9Community Service Award, the American Psychiatric Association
10and American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
11Distinguished Fellow Award, the Wayne State University School
12of Medicine - Department of Psychiatry Distinguished Medical
13Student Award, and induction into the Honorary American
14College of Psychiatrists; she was also named Teacher of the
15Year in the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry section of the
16Department of Psychiatry at Rush University and Outstanding
17Resident of the Year by Pfizer U.S. Pharmaceuticals; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Dr. Adams actively serves her profession and
19community as a leader in many local and national
20organizations, including the Illinois Psychiatric Society, the
21American Psychiatric Association, the American Academy of
22Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, the Illinois Council of Child
23and Adolescent Psychiatry, the American Medical Association,
24the American Association of Directors of Psychiatric Residency

1Training, the Black Medical Association, the Illinois Opioid
2Remediation Medical and Research Working Group, the Illinois
3Society of Addiction Medicine, the American College of
4Psychiatrists, and the Illinois State Medical Society; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dr. Adams continues to mentor, support, and serve
6as a role model for psychiatry students and young
7professionals; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Dr. Adams is an accomplished author and
9researcher and a prominent lecturer, presenter, and media
10spokesperson on mental health and health equity issues; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Dr. Adams remains a committed advocate for health
12equity, inclusion, and social justice; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
14HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
15we congratulate Adrienne L. Adams, M.D. on her historic
16election as the first Black woman to serve as president of the
17Illinois Psychiatric Society, and we commend her remarkable
18career rooted in professional excellence and community
19service; and be it further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to Dr. Adams as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
