HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Adrienne L. Adams, M.D. on her historic election as the first Black woman to serve as president of the Illinois Psychiatric Society; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Adams earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Oberlin College and a Doctor of Medicine from Wayne State University School of Medicine, completing her residency in psychiatry and a child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at the University of Illinois Chicago; she earned a Master of Science in Clinical Research from Rush University; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Adams is a psychiatrist at Endeavor Health Medical Group and serves as training director for the Department of Psychiatry's Child and Adolescent Psychiatry section at the University of Illinois College of Medicine; she holds the position of clinical associate professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford as well as associate professor-adjunct in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Adams is board certified in addiction medicine by the American Board of Preventive Medicine, board certified in child and adolescent psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and board certified in psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Adams has received numerous professional honors and awards throughout her career, including the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Outstanding Mentor Award, the Illinois Psychiatric Society Community Service Award, the American Psychiatric Association and American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Distinguished Fellow Award, the Wayne State University School of Medicine - Department of Psychiatry Distinguished Medical Student Award, and induction into the Honorary American College of Psychiatrists; she was also named Teacher of the Year in the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry section of the Department of Psychiatry at Rush University and Outstanding Resident of the Year by Pfizer U.S. Pharmaceuticals; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Adams actively serves her profession and community as a leader in many local and national organizations, including the Illinois Psychiatric Society, the American Psychiatric Association, the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, the Illinois Council of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, the American Medical Association, the American Association of Directors of Psychiatric Residency Training, the Black Medical Association, the Illinois Opioid Remediation Medical and Research Working Group, the Illinois Society of Addiction Medicine, the American College of Psychiatrists, and the Illinois State Medical Society; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Adams continues to mentor, support, and serve as a role model for psychiatry students and young professionals; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Adams is an accomplished author and researcher and a prominent lecturer, presenter, and media spokesperson on mental health and health equity issues; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Adams remains a committed advocate for health equity, inclusion, and social justice; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Adrienne L. Adams, M.D. on her historic election as the first Black woman to serve as president of the Illinois Psychiatric Society, and we commend her remarkable career rooted in professional excellence and community service; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Adams as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
