| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate Arise Chicago on its 35th |
| 4 | | anniversary, celebrating three and a half decades of advancing |
| 5 | | worker rights, dignity, and economic justice since its |
| 6 | | founding in 1991; and |
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Arise Chicago was founded by a diverse group of |
| 8 | | faith leaders committed to addressing systemic poverty and |
| 9 | | economic injustice in the Chicagoland area, grounded in the |
| 10 | | belief that all workers deserve dignity and respect in their |
| 11 | | workplaces; and |
| 12 | | WHEREAS, As the number of Chicago workers facing harsh and |
| 13 | | exploitative working conditions increased, Arise Chicago |
| 14 | | expanded its mission and programming to support workers |
| 15 | | confronting wage theft, discrimination, harassment, and unsafe |
| 16 | | labor environments; and |
| 17 | | WHEREAS, In 2001, Arise Chicago produced the first |
| 18 | | Workers' Rights Manual with easy-to-read language in Spanish, |
| 19 | | Polish, and English, outlining Illinois-specific labor |
| 20 | | protections; it became a model replicated across the country |
| 21 | | and continues to be provided as a free public resource; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Shortly after producing its Workers' Rights |
| 2 | | Manual, Arise Chicago opened a Worker Center that became a |
| 3 | | vital space for worker education, advocacy, and organizing; |
| 4 | | and |
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Arise Chicago has partnered with thousands of |
| 6 | | workers to recover more than $10,000,000 in stolen wages and |
| 7 | | compensation and has supported workers in raising their wages |
| 8 | | by more than $6,000,000; and |
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Over the last three and half decades, Arise |
| 10 | | Chicago has emerged as a pioneering organization and a leader |
| 11 | | in the faith-labor movement, partnering with religious |
| 12 | | institutions, labor unions, community organizations, and |
| 13 | | academic institutions to advocate for systemic policy reforms; |
| 14 | | therefore, be it |
| 15 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
| 16 | | HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 17 | | we congratulate Arise Chicago on the historic occasion of its |
| 18 | | 35th anniversary and commend the organization for its decades |
| 19 | | of service and leadership on behalf of Chicago's workers; and |
| 20 | | be it further |
