| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Jerry R. |
| 4 | | Buford of Chicago, who passed away on March 3, 2026; and |
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Jerry Buford, the son of Juanita Buford-Puckett |
| 6 | | and Larry Tierney, was born on the West Side of Chicago on |
| 7 | | October 3, 1966; he attended John Hay Community Academy and |
| 8 | | Oak Park and River Forest High School, where he started his |
| 9 | | group, the P Boys; he studied at Loyola University Chicago |
| 10 | | from 1986 to 1990, during which he pursued stand-up comedy, |
| 11 | | hosting a college comedy tour and performing at various |
| 12 | | venues, and he later performed at the iconic comedy club All |
| 13 | | Jokes Aside and other venues throughout the Chicagoland area; |
| 14 | | and |
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Jerry Buford developed an early interest in sales |
| 16 | | while working at the Carson, Pirie, Scott and Company building |
| 17 | | on State Street in Chicago, where he sold shoes; he ultimately |
| 18 | | became a top insurance broker in Illinois; during his nearly |
| 19 | | 40-year career, he earned numerous accolades, including being |
| 20 | | named Salesman of the Year multiple times; he was also a top |
| 21 | | salesman at the Joe Perillo car dealership; his dedication, |
| 22 | | charisma, and ability to connect with people made him highly |
| 23 | | successful in his career; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Jerry Buford was baptized and committed to his |
| 2 | | faith an early age, attending church with his brother, |
| 3 | | Glennis, and his family; and |
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Jerry Buford was a man of many talents and |
| 5 | | interests; he was also a car enthusiast, and he enjoyed |
| 6 | | photography, smoking cigars, hosting gatherings, traveling, |
| 7 | | and a number of sports, including skiing, golfing, basketball, |
| 8 | | and tennis; and |
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Jerry Buford was a man with a bold style and a |
| 10 | | charming spirit; he lived life to the fullest and possessed a |
| 11 | | remarkable ability to find humor, wisdom, or a lesson in |
| 12 | | everything; he was known for his spirit, humor, and presence; |
| 13 | | and |
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Jerry Buford was preceded in death by his |
| 15 | | parents; his brothers, Harold, Kimmy, Ricky, and Billy; and |
| 16 | | his sister, Linda; and |
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Jerry Buford is survived by his siblings, Danny, |
| 18 | | Glennis (Chirapannee), Stanley, and Janice; his stepfather, |
| 19 | | Horace Puckett; his children, Christopher (Cachela), Ashley, |
| 20 | | Tyler, Jada, Justin, Akeelah, Naomi, Jerry Jr., Jhianna, and |
| 21 | | Akayla; eight grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, |

| 1 | | extended family members, and many friends; therefore, be it |
| 2 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
| 3 | | HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 4 | | we mourn the passing of Jerry R. Buford and extend our sincere |
| 5 | | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved |
| 6 | | him; and be it further |
| 7 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 8 | | presented to the family of Jerry Buford as an expression of our |
| 9 | | deepest sympathy. |
