| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Leona Walker Davis | ||||||
| 4 | on the occasion of her 100th birthday on March 1, 2026; and | ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Leona Walker Davis was born on March 1, 1926 in | ||||||
| 6 | Climax, Georgia; she enrolled at Oakton College in 1975 and, | ||||||
| 7 | through determination and hard work, earned an associate's | ||||||
| 8 | degree in nursing in 1981; and | ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Leona Walker Davis devoted 21 years to the | ||||||
| 10 | nursing profession, providing compassionate care to patients | ||||||
| 11 | at Skokie Valley Hospital before retiring in 1989; and | ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Leona Walker Davis was married to Lester Davis, | ||||||
| 13 | who served on the board of the American-West Indian | ||||||
| 14 | Association, and together they exemplified a shared dedication | ||||||
| 15 | to community involvement and civic engagement; and | ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, Throughout her life, Leona Walker Davis has given | ||||||
| 17 | generously of her time and talents to her community, serving | ||||||
| 18 | as a board member of the Council for Human Services for the | ||||||
| 19 | Village of Skokie and on the Board of Sister Cities, as a | ||||||
| 20 | hostess for the Skokie Valley Opera chapter, and as a | ||||||
| 21 | volunteer for the Salvation Army; and | ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, In recognition of her compassionate service, | ||||||
| 2 | Leona Walker Davis was honored by the Illinois Guardianship | ||||||
| 3 | and Advocacy Commission Human Rights Authority for her | ||||||
| 4 | volunteer work supporting persons with disabilities; and | ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, In addition to her public service, Leona Walker | ||||||
| 6 | Davis enjoys many hobbies, including knitting, sewing, | ||||||
| 7 | cross-stitch, crochet, reading, and travel; and | ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, At the age of 100, Leona Walker Davis remains | ||||||
| 9 | active in her community by gardening and volunteering with | ||||||
| 10 | Evanston Grows, generously sharing her vegetables and flowers | ||||||
| 11 | with friends and neighbors; and | ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Leona Walker Davis has been a dedicated member of | ||||||
| 13 | the congregation of Second Baptist Church of Evanston since | ||||||
| 14 | 1950, demonstrating a lifelong commitment to faith, | ||||||
| 15 | fellowship, and service to others; and | ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, Leona Walker Davis's life has been guided by the | ||||||
| 17 | belief that because her faith has given her the strength to | ||||||
| 18 | help herself, she is able to do good and help others; | ||||||
| 19 | therefore, be it | ||||||
| 20 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||

| 1 | HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 2 | we congratulate Leona Walker Davis on celebrating her 100th | ||||||
| 3 | birthday, commend her lifetime of service, compassion, and | ||||||
| 4 | community leadership, and wish her continued health, | ||||||
| 5 | happiness, and fulfillment; and be it further | ||||||
| 6 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 7 | presented to Leona Walker Davis as an expression of our esteem | ||||||
| 8 | and respect. | ||||||
