| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Valencia |
| 4 | | L. Roman-Commings, who passed away on February 23, 2026; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Valencia Roman-Commings was born to Vernon |
| 6 | | Commings and Gladys Roman in Chicago on March 14, 1989; she |
| 7 | | took ballet lessons at Boitsov Classical Ballet School and |
| 8 | | dance lessons at Joel Hall Dance Studio; she attended Best |
| 9 | | Practice High School and Northern Illinois University, and she |
| 10 | | received her degree from Kishwaukee College; she began dating |
| 11 | | her partner, Marseil Jackson Sr., in 2015; and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Valencia Roman-Commings worked as a dance |
| 13 | | instructor at St. Agatha Family Empowerment (S.A.F.E.) before |
| 14 | | opening her own dance studio, Annie's Little Angels; she also |
| 15 | | worked for the LEARN Charter School Network; she was noted for |
| 16 | | her strong love of children, welcoming them into her care and |
| 17 | | being a part of their lives; and
|
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Valencia Roman-Commings committed to her faith at |
| 19 | | an early age and was baptized in the Catholic faith; she later |
| 20 | | joined Corinthian Temple Church of God in Christ; and
|
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Valencia Roman-Commings had a passion for |
|

| 1 | | dancing, especially to ballet, jazz, hip hop, and contemporary |
| 2 | | lyrical music; and
|
| 3 | | WHEREAS, Valencia Roman-Commings was preceded in death by |
| 4 | | her father and her brothers, Vernon Commings Jr. and Sedale |
| 5 | | Commings; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Valencia Roman-Commings is survived by her |
| 7 | | mother; her partner; her sons, Marseil Jackson Jr. and Maddix |
| 8 | | Jackson; one niece and three nephews; her aunts, Cathy (Roger) |
| 9 | | Roman, Mary Ann (Bernard) McLaurin, Alice Roman, Vickie Roman, |
| 10 | | Reneshia (Keith) Sturdivant, Eunice Commings, Laura Commings, |
| 11 | | Cynthia Gooden, and Alicia Kingston (Marc) Morrison; her |
| 12 | | uncles, Reggie Roman and Robert Commings; one godson; her |
| 13 | | cousins who were like siblings, Steaven Roman and Tyra Roman; |
| 14 | | and a host of cousins and friends; therefore, be it

| 15 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
| 16 | | HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 17 | | we mourn the passing of Valencia L. Roman-Commings and extend |
| 18 | | our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who |
| 19 | | knew and loved her; and be it further

| 20 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 21 | | presented to the family of Valencia Roman-Commings as an |
| 22 | | expression of our deepest sympathy. |
