| 5 | | "WHEREAS, On January 15, 1908, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, |
| 6 | | Incorporated was founded by Ethel Hedgemon Lyle and eight |
| 7 | | other collegiate women with the mission to cultivate and |
| 8 | | encourage high scholastic and ethical standards, to promote |
| 9 | | unity and friendship among college women, to study and help |
| 10 | | alleviate problems concerning girls and women in order to |
| 11 | | improve their social stature, to maintain a progressive |
| 12 | | interest in college life, and to be of "Service to All |
| 13 | | Mankind"; and |
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated has a |
| 15 | | rich history of social action; in 1915, Alpha Kappa Alpha |
| 16 | | Sorority, Incorporated hosted its first political action |

| 1 | | conference with human rights activist and Illinois Congressman |
| 2 | | Martin B. Madden as the speaker, marking its commitment to |
| 3 | | progress through advocacy, education, social progress, and |

| 5 | | WHEREAS, Soaring to greater heights of service and |
| 6 | | sisterhood, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated |
| 7 | | established its headquarters on the south side of Chicago in |
| 8 | | 1949, becoming more complex, while expanding to mobilize over |
| 9 | | 360,000 initiated members in 1,086 chapters in 50 U.S. states |
| 10 | | and territories and 12 nations, focusing on advocacy and |
| 11 | | service projects aimed at improving socioeconomic, racial, |
| 12 | | political, and environmental issues, further amplifying its |
| 13 | | influence; and |
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated's |
| 15 | | diverse collaborative work throughout the United States and |
| 16 | | including but not limited to the Bahamas, Bermuda, Canada, the |
| 17 | | Caribbean, Europe, Africa, and the United Arab Emirates |
| 18 | | integrates an elevated level of personal engagement with the |
| 19 | | strong bonds of sisterhood and a productive network of |
| 20 | | community partners; and |
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated's annual |
| 22 | | advocacy day event is an opportunity for its members to meet |
| 23 | | and discuss proposed legislation with Illinois lawmakers, |

| 1 | | engage in educational workshops concentrated on the Illinois |
| 2 | | Legislative Black Caucus four key pillars of Illinois |
| 3 | | government, and explore ways to enhance civic engagement; and |
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Illinois is home to 46 Alpha Kappa Alpha |
| 5 | | Sorority, Incorporated chapters, of which 18 are located on |
| 6 | | college and university campuses and 28 are alumnae chapters |
| 7 | | located in communities throughout the State; and |
| 8 | | WHEREAS, The Illinois chapters of Alpha Kappa Alpha |
| 9 | | Sorority, Incorporated along with chapters located throughout |
| 10 | | Indiana, Kentucky, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, South |
| 11 | | Dakota, and Wisconsin are designated as the sorority's Central |
| 12 | | Region, and this region is home to 96 empowered and engaged |
| 13 | | chapters focused on advocacy and service; and |
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Presently, a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha |
| 15 | | Sorority, Incorporated serves in each chamber of the 104th |
| 16 | | Illinois General Assembly, and those members are Senator |
| 17 | | Mattie Hunter and Representative Kim du Buclet; and |
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Notably, 48th Lieutenant Governor Juliana |
| 19 | | Stratton, who serves in the State's executive branch, is also |
| 20 | | a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated; and |
| 21 | | WHEREAS, On April 30, 2025, Illinois members of Alpha |

| 1 | | Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated will participate in Alpha |
| 2 | | Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated Day at the Illinois State |
| 3 | | Capitol; and |
| 4 | | WHEREAS, In a collective effort to advance the priorities |
| 5 | | of the respective communities in which they serve, the |
| 6 | | Illinois delegation of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, |
| 7 | | Incorporated will be joined by the Illinois delegation of |
| 8 | | Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated for Alpha Kappa Alpha |
| 9 | | Sorority, Incorporated Day at the Illinois State Capitol for |
| 10 | | the empowerment of the people; therefore, be it |
| 11 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
| 12 | | HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE |
| 13 | | SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we declare April 30, 2025 as |
