SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Mary Lou "Doll" Glover, who passed away on December 15, 2024; and

WHEREAS, Mary Glover, the daughter of Tommie Lee Harlan Sr. and Viola Patterson, was born in Macon, Mississippi on August 20, 1938; she committed to her faith at an early age and was baptized at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Macon, where she was an active member; she graduated from Noxubee County High School in Mississippi in 1958; she relocated to Charleston, South Carolina after high school and then to Detroit, Michigan in 1959; she married Andrew Lee Glover; and

WHEREAS, Mary Glover held several positions while working at the Navy Exchange, including as supervisor of the Camera Department; during her husband's 27-year career in the U.S. Navy, she managed the household when he was stationed overseas, including taking care of the finances and chauffeuring her children to and from school and other activities; she also coordinated packing and relocating to various states when it was time to move; and

WHEREAS, Mary Glover joined First Baptist Church of North Chicago around 1989, where she served as a pastor's aide, a member of the Kitchen Committee, and a deaconess; she also coordinated the annual Valentine's Day tea and Women's Day choir, and she made many beautiful and delicious cakes and meals for various church events and other special occasions; and

WHEREAS, Mary Glover was gifted at gardening, being recognized with several Yard of the Month awards, and she was a skilled seamstress who participated in many fashion shows and designed her daughter's wedding dress; she also loved photography, cooking, and cake decorating; and

WHEREAS, Mary Glover valued her family above everything else, and she was known for her dynamic smile and laugh; and

WHEREAS, Mary Glover was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Tommie Lee Harlan Jr., Otha L. Harlan Sr., Bobby Harlan, and Leon Harlan; and her sisters, Clara (Willie) Oliver, Ollie (John) Harlan, and Earlene Harlan; and

WHEREAS, Mary Glover is survived by her husband, Andrew; her children, Andrew (Jan) Glover and Lorraine (Rev. Rick) Harris; two grandchildren; her sisters, Pecola Harlan, Marion "Mildred" (Earl) Booker, and Bonnie (Julius) Beck; her brothers, Levarn (Bonnie) Harlan, Clarence (Rosie) Harlan, and Ernest "Red" (Orlena) Harlan; her sister-in-law, Gaynell (Leon) Harlan; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Mary Lou "Doll" Glover and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Mary Glover as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
