| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
| 3 | | to learn of the death of Fred M. Lear of Rock Island, who |
| 4 | | passed away on July 12, 2024; and |
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Fred Lear was born to Fred and Maybel Dyer-Lear |
| 6 | | on March 17, 1936; he graduated from Rock Island High School |
| 7 | | and Augustana College, where he was a standout baseball player |
| 8 | | at both places; he served in the U.S. Army as a communication |
| 9 | | specialist; he married Carol A. Johnson on June 14, 1958; and |
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Fred Lear taught in the East Moline School system |
| 11 | | for 30 years; and |
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Fred Lear was a decades-long member of First |
| 13 | | Lutheran Church in Rock Island, where he sang in the choir and |
| 14 | | bowled in the church league; he enjoyed traveling, especially |
| 15 | | his annual trips to Colorado with his family, golfing with his |
| 16 | | son and grandchildren, cheering on the Chicago Cubs and Bears, |
| 17 | | and spending time with his wife; he was a loving husband, |
| 18 | | father, and grandfather; and |
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Fred Lear was preceded in death by his parents |
| 20 | | and his siblings, Roy Lear, Glenn Lear, Fran Lear, Helen |
| 21 | | Smith, Faye Hannon, Ruth Kenney, Mary Rothwell, Janet Young, |
