| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
| 3 | to learn of the death of Sheila Stevenson of Oak Park, who | ||||||
| 4 | passed away on February 28, 2024 at the age of 89; and | ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Sheila Stevenson was born to Henry and Winifred | ||||||
| 6 | (Worley) Stevenson in Paddington in London, England on August | ||||||
| 7 | 26, 1934; and | ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Sheila Stevenson was evacuated from London during | ||||||
| 9 | World War II and lived in Wales with a host family until after | ||||||
| 10 | the war when her family settled in Sussex; and | ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Sheila Stevenson graduated with a degree in | ||||||
| 12 | history from the University of Leicester; and | ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Sheila Stevenson was passionate about library | ||||||
| 14 | science; she first came to the United States to work at the | ||||||
| 15 | Baltimore Public Library, and she started working at the Oak | ||||||
| 16 | Park Public Library in 1973; and | ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, Sheila Stevenson had a three-decade-long career | ||||||
| 18 | at the Oak Park Public Library, where she became a great friend | ||||||
| 19 | to co-workers and patrons; she was dedicated to the library's | ||||||
| 20 | mission and made an indelible impression on those around her; | ||||||

| 1 | and | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, Sheila Stevenson served as head of the Readers | ||||||
| 3 | Services Department and then as the head of Collection | ||||||
| 4 | Development at the Oak Park Public Library before retiring in | ||||||
| 5 | 2002; and | ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Sheila Stevenson enjoyed theatre, literature, and | ||||||
| 7 | opera, being a longtime Lyric Opera season ticket holder; she | ||||||
| 8 | also enjoyed traveling to the Stratford Festival in Ontario | ||||||
| 9 | for 40 straight years; and | ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Sheila Stevenson was an avid appreciator of fine | ||||||
| 11 | dining, and she made a famous trifle; and | ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Sheila Stevenson was preceded in death by her | ||||||
| 13 | parents and her sister, Gillian (Henry) Stevenson Smith; and | ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Sheila Stevenson is survived by her nephews, Tim | ||||||
| 15 | Smith and Christopher Smith; therefore, be it | ||||||
| 16 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | ||||||
| 17 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
| 18 | Sheila Stevenson and extend our sincere condolences to her | ||||||
| 19 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | ||||||
| 20 | further | ||||||
