| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
| 3 | | to learn of the death of Colonel Charles Ronald "Ron" Lovett |
| 4 | | (Ret.) of Pensacola, Florida, who passed away on May 26, 2024; |
| 5 | | and |
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Ron Lovett was born to Charles Lovett and Lucille |
| 7 | | Brickey Lovett in Granite City, Illinois on November 7, 1948; |
| 8 | | he graduated from Jacksonville High School; he received his |
| 9 | | bachelor's degree from Illinois College and earned his |
| 10 | | master's degree from Troy University; and |
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Ron Lovett served as a pilot in the U.S. Air Force |
| 12 | | on active-duty for over 30 years; he later earned the honor of |
| 13 | | becoming the squadron commander for the 15th Special |
| 14 | | Operations Squadron (SOS), based in Hurlburt Field, Fort |
| 15 | | Walton Beach, Florida; he flew AC-130H Spectre gunships and |
| 16 | | later piloted the MC-130E Talon I and the MC-130H Talon II, and |
| 17 | | he acquired over 4,200 flying hours; he also served as a staff |
| 18 | | member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon; and |
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Ron Lovett was a recipient of the Bronze Star; he |
| 20 | | was also awarded the Meritorious Service Medal with three oak |
| 21 | | leaf clusters, the Air Medal with an oak leaf cluster, the |
| 22 | | Vietnam Service Medal, and the Kuwait Liberation Medal; and |
