| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
| 3 | | to learn of the death of Stacks the Library Cat of Litchfield, |
| 4 | | who passed away on May 10, 2024; and |
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Stacks was found abandoned near Gillespie and |
| 6 | | then taken to Adopt-A-Pet in Benld, where she was adopted by |
| 7 | | the Litchfield Carnegie Public Library in 2009; she made the |
| 8 | | move to the library's new facility in 2018; and |
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Stacks lived in the library with staff checking |
| 10 | | on her on days the library was closed; and |
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Stacks worked as a mouser, greeter, and elevator |
| 12 | | attendant at the Litchfield library, and her care and food |
| 13 | | were funded by donations; and |
| 14 | | WHEREAS, During her tenure, Stacks was featured as one of |
| 15 | | 45 amazing literary cats in the February issue of Cat Fancy |
| 16 | | magazine in 2010; she was also featured in The State |
| 17 | | Journal-Register and the Chicago Tribune; notably, there are |
| 18 | | an estimated 700 cats living in libraries around the world; |
| 19 | | and |
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Stacks had a playful nature, including a fondness |
