| 4 | | WHEREAS, Globally, 20,000 children are diagnosed with |
| 5 | | Duchenne muscular dystrophy each year; and |
| 6 | | WHEREAS, There are an estimated 15,000 people in the U.S. |
| 7 | | living with Duchenne muscular dystrophy; and |
| 8 | | WHEREAS, With increased funding for research and rapidly |
| 9 | | improving treatments, people with Duchenne muscular dystrophy |
| 10 | | have more hope than before; however, there is currently no |
| 11 | | cure for Duchenne muscular dystrophy; and |
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Earlier diagnosis of Duchenne muscular dystrophy |
| 13 | | in children could improve health outcomes for those affected; |
| 14 | | and |
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Symptoms of Duchenne muscular dystrophy include |
| 16 | | progressive loss of strength and function in the hips, thighs, |
| 17 | | shoulders, pelvis, arms, lower legs, and trunk; later in life, |
| 18 | | strength in the muscles of the heart and lungs, heart |
| 19 | | function, and breathing are also affected; and |
