| 2 |  |     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened  | 
| 3 |  | to learn of the death of Gustav "Gus" Carl Jr. of Pekin, who  | 
| 4 |  | passed away on February 24, 2024; and
 | 
| 5 |  |     WHEREAS, Gus Carl was born in Youngstown, Ohio to Gustav  | 
| 6 |  | Sr. and Madeline E. (Musshafen) Carl on June 25, 1929; he  | 
| 7 |  | served in the U.S. Army; he married Marian E. Friedrich in  | 
| 8 |  | Pekin on May 26, 1957; and
 | 
| 9 |  |     WHEREAS, Gus Carl worked at Soldwedel-Borden Dairy until  | 
| 10 |  | he purchased what is now Carl & Nichols Shell in 1959; he  | 
| 11 |  | retired from day-to-day operations at the age of 80; and
 | 
| 12 |  |     WHEREAS, Gus Carl was a member of St. Paul's United Church  | 
| 13 |  | of Christ in Pekin, where he had served as an usher; he was a  | 
| 14 |  | lifetime member of the Elks; and
 | 
| 15 |  |     WHEREAS, Gus Carl was a kind and considerate man, who  | 
| 16 |  | enjoyed talking to both the young and old alike; he liked  | 
| 17 |  | fishing with his buddies, softball, and football; he was a fan  | 
| 18 |  | of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Chicago Bears; and
 | 
| 19 |  |     WHEREAS, Gus Carl was preceded in death by his parents;  | 
| 20 |  | his brother, Walter; and his sister, Irene Oertel; and
