| 1 | SENATE RESOLUTION | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
| 3 | to learn of the death of W. Roscoe McCall, D.D.S. of Peoria, | ||||||
| 4 | who passed away on December 15, 2023; and | ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Dr. McCall was born to Rueben McCall Sr. and Mary | ||||||
| 6 | McCall in Brewster, Florida on June 30, 1942; he graduated | ||||||
| 7 | second in his class from Union Academy High School in Bartow, | ||||||
| 8 | Florida in 1961, where he played fullback on the football | ||||||
| 9 | team; he received his Associate of Arts in Biology from Gibbs | ||||||
| 10 | Jr. College in St. Petersburg, Florida in 1963; he earned his | ||||||
| 11 | Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Bradley University in Peoria, | ||||||
| 12 | Illinois in 1965; he obtained his Bachelor of Science in | ||||||
| 13 | Pharmacy from Florida A&M University in 1971; he graduated | ||||||
| 14 | from the Meharry Medical College School of Dentistry in | ||||||
| 15 | Nashville, Tennessee in 1976; and | ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, Dr. McCall returned to Peoria in 1976, becoming | ||||||
| 17 | the fourth African-American dentist in Peoria's history while | ||||||
| 18 | initially working at the Peoria County Health Department; he | ||||||
| 19 | opened his own private practice in 1977, which he operated for | ||||||
| 20 | 29 years; and | ||||||
| 21 | WHEREAS, Dr. McCall entered into semi-retirement in | ||||||
| 22 | January 2007, which lasted for three weeks, before accepting | ||||||

| 1 | employment as a dentist at Logan Correctional Institution in | ||||||
| 2 | February 2007, where he worked until his retirement in 2021; | ||||||
| 3 | and | ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, Dr. McCall actively served the Peoria community | ||||||
| 5 | as a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.; he also | ||||||
| 6 | participated in events with the Tri-County Urban League and | ||||||
| 7 | was a lifelong member of the NAACP; and | ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Dr. McCall was inducted into the Union Academy | ||||||
| 9 | High School Athletic Hall of Fame, and he was fond of telling | ||||||
| 10 | football stories; and | ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Dr. McCall was preceded in death by his parents; | ||||||
| 12 | 11 siblings; and his daughter, Tonya J. McCall; and | ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Dr. McCall is survived by his wife of 59 years, | ||||||
| 14 | Geraldine "Geri" (Williams) McCall; his sons, Pastor Steven | ||||||
| 15 | (Valerie) McCall and Christopher (Tiffany) McCall, J.D.; seven | ||||||
| 16 | grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his brothers, Norman | ||||||
| 17 | (Cheryl) McCall and Hyrom (Eloise) McCall; and a host of | ||||||
| 18 | nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends; therefore, be it | ||||||
| 19 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | ||||||
| 20 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
| 21 | W. Roscoe McCall, D.D.S. and extend our sincere condolences to | ||||||

| 1 | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
| 2 | further | ||||||
| 3 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 4 | presented to the family of Dr. McCall as an expression of our | ||||||
