| 1 | SENATE RESOLUTION | ||||||
| 2 |     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened  | ||||||
| 3 | to learn of the death of Thomas W. "Tom" Ortciger, who passed  | ||||||
| 4 | away on December 7, 2023; and | ||||||
| 5 |     WHEREAS, Tom Ortciger was born to Edward and Mildred  | ||||||
| 6 | (Jirkovsky) Ortciger in Chicago on February 14, 1941; he  | ||||||
| 7 | graduated from J. Sterling Morton High School in Cicero; he  | ||||||
| 8 | attended Northwestern University and graduated from Shimer  | ||||||
| 9 | College in 1964; he married Nancy Cruthis; and | ||||||
| 10 |     WHEREAS, Tom Ortciger had a long and distinguished career  | ||||||
| 11 | in public service; he was an executive assistant to  | ||||||
| 12 | Congressman Edward Derwinski and worked for the  | ||||||
| 13 | administrations of Governor James Thompson, Governor Jim  | ||||||
| 14 | Edgar, and Governor George Ryan; he served as assistant  | ||||||
| 15 | director of the Illinois Department of Registration and  | ||||||
| 16 | Education and then as deputy state fire marshal; he was  | ||||||
| 17 | appointed director of the Illinois Emergency Services &  | ||||||
| 18 | Disasters Agency in 1988; due to his superb skills in handling  | ||||||
| 19 | critical issues, he was then appointed director of the  | ||||||
| 20 | Illinois Department of Nuclear Safety; and | ||||||
| 21 |     WHEREAS, Tom Ortciger served as alderperson for the  | ||||||
| 22 | Village of Leland Grove for many years until 2005; and | ||||||
|

| 1 |     WHEREAS, Tom Ortciger was initiated into the Westchester  | ||||||
| 2 | #0995 Masonic Lodge in 1965, where he remained a member until  | ||||||
| 3 | he became affiliated with the Temperance #0016 Lodge in  | ||||||
| 4 | Vandalia in 2008; and | ||||||
| 5 |     WHEREAS, Tom enjoyed traveling, hunting, spending time  | ||||||
| 6 | outdoors, and discussing politics; he was an incredible chef  | ||||||
| 7 | who cooked legendary seven-course Christmas dinners for family  | ||||||
| 8 | and friends; he will be remembered for his larger-than-life  | ||||||
| 9 | personality and his sarcastic, sharp wit; and | ||||||
| 10 |     WHEREAS, Tom Ortciger is survived by his wife of 30 years,  | ||||||
| 11 | Nancy Ortciger; his son, Edward (Lisa) Ortciger; his  | ||||||
| 12 | stepchildren, Margie (Dave) Chilovich and Chip (Lynn)  | ||||||
| 13 | Fritzsche; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two  | ||||||
| 14 | cousins; and many friends; therefore, be it | ||||||
| 15 |     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL  | ||||||
| 16 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of  | ||||||
| 17 | Thomas W. "Tom" Ortciger and extend our sincere condolences to  | ||||||
| 18 | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it  | ||||||
| 19 | further | ||||||
| 20 |     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be  | ||||||
| 21 | presented to the family of Tom Ortciger as an expression of our  | ||||||
