SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Dr. James "Jim" Picek of Woodridge, who passed away on October 17, 2023; and

WHEREAS, Jim Picek was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa; he was raised in a loving home interested in hard work, sports, and academics, especially mathematics and statistical analytics; and

WHEREAS, Jim Picek became a professor of psychology and taught at three universities, Indiana University, the University of Wisconsin, and DePaul University; he later worked for Caterpillar Inc. at its corporate headquarters in Peoria for 25 years; and

WHEREAS, Jim Picek retired early and pursued his life's passions, which included philanthropy, the culinary arts, travel, and living a healthy lifestyle; he also discovered he enjoyed running; and

WHEREAS, Jim Picek will be remembered for his strength, courage, humility, kindness, and love of life; and

WHEREAS, Jim Picek was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Viola Picek, and his nephew, Christopher Kelly; and

WHEREAS, Jim Picek is survived by his wife, Gina Cunningham; his children, Michael and Rasmey Picek, Katy Picek, and Sarah and Kurt Fairbank; his grandchildren, Blake, Annalise, Alexander, Audrey, Sophia, Sylvia, Josephine, Nathaniel, and Edward; his sister, Mary Ann Kelly, and her family, Stephanie and Sam Lynn; his niece and nephew-in-law, Sydney and Drew Criminski; his in-laws, the Brown and Husted families; many cousins, nieces, and nephews; and his best friend, Niko; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Dr. James "Jim" Picek and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Jim Picek as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
