SENATE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to 
3congratulate Mujeres Latinas en Acción on their 50 years of 
4service throughout the State of Illinois; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Mujeres Latinas en Acción is a bilingual and 
6bicultural agency that empowers Latinas by providing services 
7that reflect their values, culture, and advocacy on the issues 
8that make a difference in their lives; and
  
 
9    WHEREAS, Founded in 1973, Mujeres Latinas en Acción is the 
10longest running incorporated Latina organization in the 
11nation; the year of 2023 marks 50 years that this organization 
12has dedicated to the Latino communities in the Chicago area; 
13by developing a comprehensive array of social services and 
14advocacy initiatives that promote non-violence, reproductive 
15health, and leadership development, this organization is a 
16critical resource for Black and Brown people in Illinois; and
  
 
17    WHEREAS, Understanding the importance of supporting 
18individuals when they need it the most, Mujeres Latinas en 
19Acción has a domestic violence program, a sexual assault 
20program, a parent support program, a Latina Leadership program 
21for Spanish-speaking women survivors of sexual and domestic 
22violence, and an educational program for Spanish-speaking

1immigrants, as well as a focus on community engagement and 
2business training; and
  
 
3    WHEREAS, For individuals who may need assistance with 
4domestic violence related situations, Mujeres Latinas en 
5Acción has a 24-hour crisis hotline that offers counseling, 
6therapy, and many other resources; with an all bilingual 
7staff, the organization continues to meet its communities' 
8needs without making anyone feel unheard or misrepresented; 
9and
  
 
10    WHEREAS, Serving thousands of Latino families, students, 
11children, and leaders in the community, Mujeres Latinas en 
12Acción is an example of excellence at the highest level; 
13therefore, be it
  
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL 
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate 
16Mujeres Latinas en Acción for 50 years of service and merit; 
17and be it further
  
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution is to be 
19presented to Linda Tortolero as a symbol of our esteem and 
20respect.
