SENATE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened 
3to learn of the death of David Lucas of Springfield, who passed 
4away on July 25, 2023; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, David Lucas was born to Wayne and Ethel 
6(Hohenstein) Lucas in Bloomington on October 26, 1940; he 
7graduated from Bloomington High School
and the University of 
8Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; he married Pamela Lucas in 
9Stowe, Vermont on February 14, 1973;  and
  
 
10    WHEREAS, David Lucas worked in numerous departments for 
11the State of Illinois for over 40 years; he retired as regional 
12manager for the Social Security
disability program 
13administered by the Illinois Department of
Human Services
in 
142002; and
  
 
15    WHEREAS, David Lucas was an avid bicyclist who rode an

16estimated 200,000-plus miles, and he was a certified bicycling

17instructor with The League of American Bicyclists; he was a 
18member of the
Springfield Bicycle Club for over 50 years and 
19Ride Illinois, the Illinois bicycle
education/advocacy 
20association; he was also a member of the Springfield Milers, a 
21BMW motorcycle club; and

1    WHEREAS, David Lucas was preceded in death his parents; 
2his  sister, Janet Whitwood; and his brother,
William Lucas; 
3and
  
 
4    WHEREAS, David Lucas is survived by his wife; his 
5children, Michael
(Nell) Lucas, Chris (Beth) Lucas, Sarah (Rob 
6Sullivan) Lucas, and Jessica (Bob Stelzer)
Lucas; his 
7grandchildren, Nora,
Ella, Kyle, and Sydney; his sisters, 
8Connie Kocher
and Cathy (Robin) Dexter; and several nieces and

9nephews; therefore, be it
  
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL 
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of

12David Lucas and extend our sincere
condolences to his family, 
13friends, and all who knew and loved
him; and be it further
  
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be

15presented to the family of David Lucas as an expression of
our 
16deepest sympathy.
