| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
| 3 | | to learn of the death of Gary Lee Newlun of North Pekin, who |
| 4 | | passed away on May 18, 2023; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Gary Newlun was born in Pekin to Clarence and |
| 6 | | Dorothy Newlun on December 20, 1949; he served with the United |
| 7 | | States Army in Germany between 1969 and 1972; he graduated |
| 8 | | from Bradley University with a degree in accounting and |
| 9 | | business administration; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Gary Newlun worked as a truck driver for his |
| 11 | | father's business, Newlun Transport, prior to his military |
| 12 | | service; afterward, he worked as an accountant in the |
| 13 | | transportation industry and was most recently employed as a |
| 14 | | parts delivery driver for O'Reilly Auto Parts; and |
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Gary Newlun became a member of Alcoholics |
| 16 | | Anonymous in 1994 and reaped the benefits of nearly three |
| 17 | | decades of sobriety; through his years in AA, he helped many |
| 18 | | people make positive changes in their own lives; while he did |
| 19 | | not always have a lot, he was always willing to give others |
| 20 | | what he did have, whether it was a place to live, a ride to a |
| 21 | | meeting, or the encouraging advice of taking life one day at a |
| 22 | | time; and
