| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
| 3 | | to learn of the death of Donald E. "Donnie" Blakeman of |
| 4 | | Taylorville, who passed away on March 15, 2023; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Donnie Blakeman was born in May Township to |
| 6 | | Wilbur and Mabel (Moomey) Blakeman on October 13, 1934; he |
| 7 | | served in the U.S. Air Force; he married Mary Agnes DeMichael |
| 8 | | in Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Stonington on June
27, |
| 9 | | 1959; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Donnie Blakeman worked for Caterpillar for
many |
| 11 | | years, and after retirement, he worked for several area |
| 12 | | farmers; and
|
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Donnie Blakeman was active with Stonington |
| 14 | | American Legion Post 257, where he served as adjutant for
many |
| 15 | | years; he served his community in a number of other ways, |
| 16 | | including as president of the
board for Stonington area |
| 17 | | schools and with the Stonington Village Board and the |
| 18 | | Stonington Fire Department; he was
also an active member of |
| 19 | | Holy Trinity Catholic Church; and
|
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Donnie Blakeman played softball for several years |
| 21 | | and, along
with his brother Leroy, umpired games for 20 years; |
|

| 1 | | he was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and
enjoyed playing |
| 2 | | cards with his friends at the American Legion and watching the |
| 3 | | Game Show Network; he never
passed up a bowl of ice cream, and |
| 4 | | more than anything, he loved spending time with his family,
|
| 5 | | especially his grandchildren; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Donnie Blakeman was preceded in death by his wife |
| 7 | | of 60 years, Mary; his daughter, Margaret; his parents; four
|
| 8 | | brothers; and four sisters; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Donnie Blakeman is survived by his children, John |
| 10 | | F. (Shannon) Blakeman, Joseph Blakeman, Michael (Denise) |
| 11 | | Blakeman, Daniel Blakeman, Thomas
Blakeman, and Mary "Missy" |
| 12 | | (Todd) Wemhoener; his grandchildren,
Lauren Blakeman, John R. |
| 13 | | Blakeman, Katie Wemhoener, Dustin Blome, Aaron Blome, and |
| 14 | | Ashley
Kochniarczyk; several great-grandchildren; his sister, |
| 15 | | Marilyn Wattelet; and several nieces, nephews,
and cousins; |
| 16 | | therefore, be it

| 17 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL |
| 18 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
| 19 | | Donald E. "Donnie" Blakeman and extend our sincere condolences |
| 20 | | to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be |
| 21 | | it further
