SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to recognize Beverly Sussman on her service as President of the Village of Buffalo Grove; and

WHEREAS, President Sussman and her husband, Marty, moved to the Village of Buffalo Grove in 1971, and they raised their children in the village; and

WHEREAS, President Sussman previously worked as a sixth-grade science teacher with Kildeer Countryside Consolidated School District #96; during her career in education, she was awarded the Presidential Award for Excellence in Math and Science Teaching and represented the State of Illinois in Washington, D.C. in 1995; she taught for 25 years before her retirement in 2004; she also served as an adjunct professor at National Louis University, where she taught science methods courses in the master's degree program; and

WHEREAS, President Sussman became involved in village leadership by serving on the Rick Kahen Commission for Residents with Disabilities, a post she held for 15 years from 1994 until her first election as a village trustee in 2009; during this time, she and the commission helped expand accessibility to community members with special needs; she served as a village trustee from 2009 until 2015; and

WHEREAS, President Sussman has achieved a number of accomplishments during her eight-year tenure as president, all of which are to the betterment of the Village of Buffalo Grove; she and the village board have fostered a business-friendly economy and expanded communications efforts to include a variety of social media platforms, live-streamed village board meetings, a robust website, and a weekly e-newsletter; and

WHEREAS, President Sussman's additional accomplishments include attracting Woodman's grocery store and Northwest Community Healthcare and its adjacent multitenant development, establishing a new Public Works Facility, and pursuing the Infrastructure Modernization Program to revive Buffalo Grove's streets, water, and sanitary systems; and

WHEREAS, Over the past several years, President Sussman has been heavily involved in the redevelopment of the Town Center, which is the largest redevelopment project in village history, into a new, modern central entertainment and residential district called The Clove; and

WHEREAS, Through her efforts and dedication, President Sussman has played a key role in helping the Village of Buffalo Grove grow into a bustling community featuring a healthy economy, excellent parks, and high-quality schools and a great place to live, work, and raise a family; and

WHEREAS, President Sussman has expressed plans to spend more time with her husband, Marty, and her family, who continuously supported her efforts to serve the Village of Buffalo Grove; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize Beverly Sussman on her service as President of the Village of Buffalo Grove, thank her for her dedication to the community, and wish her the best in her future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Beverly Sussman as an expression of our esteem and respect.
