SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Billy C. Brooks of Mechanicsburg, who passed away on March 18, 2023; and

WHEREAS, Billy Brooks was born in Springfield to Carl and Carlton (Guernsey) Brooks on October 23, 1944; he graduated from Tri-City High School in 1962, where he was active in the Future Farmers of America and earned a varsity letter in cross country; he earned a bachelor's degree in Agronomy from the University of Illinois; he married Carol Sue Briggs in Mechanicsburg on February 28, 1975; and

WHEREAS, Billy Brooks was a lifelong farmer and retired pharmacy technician; and

WHEREAS, Billy Brooks was a volunteer at multiple animal shelters, a regular blood donor, and a longtime member of the Sangamon County Farm Bureau; and

WHEREAS, Billy Brooks enjoyed spending time with his family, working on the farm, reading, hiking, and traveling; he attended Fountain of Life UM Church in Buffalo; and

WHEREAS, Billy Brooks was preceded in death by his parents; and

WHEREAS, Billy Brooks is survived by his wife, Sue; his children, Steven Wayne Hunter, Scott Howard Brooks, Erin Gracie Brooks, Paul William Brooks, and Michael Carl Brooks; his grandchildren, April Hunter, Jennifer Brooks, Stephanie Hunter, Bobby Brooks, Karl Brooks, William Brooks, and Madeline Brooks; his great-grandchildren, Gracie Conover, Noah Smith, Beckham Smith, Carmen Bakunis, Gunner Barnes, Gatlin Peterson, and Declan Brooks; and his sister, Patricia Bolattino; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Billy C. Brooks and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Billy Brooks as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
