| 1 | | AN ACT concerning education.
|
| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, |
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:

| 4 | | Section 5. The Public Higher Education Act is amended by |
| 5 | | adding Section 15 as follows:
|
| 6 | | (110 ILCS 167/15 new) |
| 7 | | Sec. 15. Transcript evaluation fee waivers. |
| 8 | | (a) In this Section, "refugee" means a person who has |
| 9 | | entered the United States on a refugee status from Iraq or |
| 10 | | Afghanistan. |
| 11 | | (b) Beginning January 1, 2025, each public institution of |
| 12 | | higher education shall pay on behalf of a refugee or reimburse |
| 13 | | a refugee for payment of any transcript evaluation fees that |
| 14 | | are required by the public institution of higher education to |
| 15 | | be paid during the admission process.

| 16 | | Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon |
| 17 | | becoming law. |
