| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives wish to honor our esteemed colleague, Lakesia |
| 4 | | Collins, for her three years as a member of the Illinois House |
| 5 | | of Representatives and thank her for her dedicated service to |
| 6 | | our State and the 9th House District; and |
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Rep. Collins was born in Chicago, graduated from |
| 8 | | Proviso East High School in Maywood, and earned certification |
| 9 | | as a certified nursing assistant (CNA), going on to provide |
| 10 | | years of service to residents in Chicago nursing homes; and |
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Inspired by her experience providing care in |
| 12 | | nursing homes, Rep. Collins became a labor organizer and |
| 13 | | healthcare advocate for working families, fighting to raise |
| 14 | | wages, improve working conditions, and raise standards of |
| 15 | | care; and |
| 16 | | WHEREAS, During her time as a labor advocate, Rep. Collins |
| 17 | | founded the Future Fighters organization for workers rights, |
| 18 | | served on the executive board of SEIU Healthcare, and was |
| 19 | | recognized for her advocacy for working families by being |
| 20 | | named the 2019 recipient of the Florence Criley Award from the |
| 21 | | Chicago Coalition of Labor Women; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Rep. Collins began serving in the House of |
| 2 | | Representatives in July 2020, working to support her |
| 3 | | constituents with a focus on key issues important to the |
| 4 | | working families of the 9th District, including improving |
| 5 | | public safety, providing affordable, quality housing, fighting |
| 6 | | for improved funding of public education, ensuring quality, |
| 7 | | affordable healthcare access, and protecting the rights of |
| 8 | | workers; and |
| 9 | | WHEREAS, As a member of the House of Representatives, Rep. |
| 10 | | Collins was a leader in passing measures to expand child care |
| 11 | | benefits, protect the rights of youth in foster care, improve |
| 12 | | responses to lead poisoning, and strengthen protections for |
| 13 | | workers; and |
| 14 | | WHEREAS, During her tenure in the House, Rep. Collins was |
| 15 | | selected by her colleagues to serve as House Chair for the |
| 16 | | Illinois Legislative Black Caucus, was named Black Caucus |
| 17 | | Whip, and served as chairperson for the House Health Care |
| 18 | | Availability and Accessibility Committee; and |
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Rep. Collins has balanced the responsibilities of |
| 20 | | being a public servant with the responsibilities of being a |
| 21 | | mother of three sons; and |
| 22 | | WHEREAS, Rep. Collins left the House of Representatives in |

| 1 | | August 2023, continuing her service to the people of Illinois |
| 2 | | as a state senator for the 5th District; therefore, be it |
| 3 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
| 4 | | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 5 | | we congratulate and thank Senator Lakesia Collins for her |
| 6 | | years of dedicated service in the House, and we wish her luck |
| 7 | | in her endeavors as a state senator; and be it further |
| 8 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 9 | | presented to Sen. Collins as an expression of our esteem and |
| 10 | | respect. |
