HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to honor our colleague, State
4Representative Lance Yednock, on his six years of service as a
5member of the Illinois General Assembly and thank him for his
6dedication to the State and his community; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Prior to being elected to the General Assembly,
8Rep. Yednock worked as a heavy equipment operator for more
9than 20 years, and in 2012, he became a business agent and
10executive board member of International Union of Operating
11Engineers Local 150; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Rep. Yednock earned his Bachelor of Arts in
13Political Science from Northern Illinois University in 1994
14and serves as a member of the Northern Illinois University
15Caucus; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Rep. Yednock, known in the state and among
17friends as a curling champion, is a lifelong resident of the
18Illinois River Valley and currently lives in Ottawa; he has
19worked tirelessly during his time in office to ensure all of
20his communities' needs were heard and addressed; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Rep. Yednock is an example of dedication to one's

1community; he listened to his constituents and did not let
2good ideas go to waste, frequently filing bills on their
3behalf to address issues that needed attention; working with
4sportsmen in his community, he passed legislation that allowed
5deer hunters to use single shot rifles, bringing Illinois in
6line with surrounding states, and he removed barriers hunters
7had to face to join the sport; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Rep. Yednock is a strong supporter of workers'
9rights and collective bargaining, as demonstrated through both
10his legislation and his own life as part of IUOE Local 150; he
11passed legislation guaranteeing the right to collectively
12bargain and also helped pass the Workers' Rights Amendment to
13the State Constitution; he also worked to pass a bill that gave
14workers more protections from their employers when striking
15and fought to keep unions protected from people who would seek
16to disrupt their strikes; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Rep. Yednock was elected by the Moderate Caucus
18to serve as chair in 2023, and during his time as chair, he
19showed the willingness and commitment to reach across the
20aisle and advance legislation in a bipartisan manner, and he
21and his colleagues kept in mind the values of compromise and
22good faith debate to ensure all public policy was robust and
23scrutinized; and

1    WHEREAS, Rep. Yednock served as chairman of the Veterans
2Affairs Committee and oversaw the passage of bills that made
3it less costly for disabled veterans to build accommodations
4to their homes and bills that will ensure veterans are better
5respected and cared for by the State; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Rep. Yednock paved the way for SMRs, otherwise
7known as small modular nuclear reactors to be built in
8Illinois, which will allow for the state to develop a new
9generation of nuclear energy technology that will enable our
10State to move evermore towards our goal of lower costs for
11everyday Illinoisans, as well as, a green energy future; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Rep. Yednock has become a member who is respected
13on both sides of the aisle; he is known for his willingness to
14listen to both sides, his reliability in showing up on time,
15and his commitment to listening to all stakeholders and
16tackling difficult issues with humility and respect;
17therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
19HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
20we congratulate State Rep. Lance Yednock on his retirement
21from the Illinois House of Representatives, thank him for his
22six years of dedicated service to the people of Illinois, and
23wish him the best in the next chapter of his life; and be it
