| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Leonard |
| 4 | | Elias Etlinger, Ph.D., who passed away on December 6, 2024; |
| 5 | | and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Leonard Etlinger was born on February 29, 1948; |
| 7 | | he received his undergraduate degree from Massachusetts |
| 8 | | Institute of Technology (MIT) and his Ph.D. from Southern |
| 9 | | Illinois University Carbondale; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Leonard Etlinger spent most of his career working |
| 11 | | as a professor at Chicago State University before serving as |
| 12 | | Dean of Continuing Education, retiring as a vice president 27 |
| 13 | | years of later; he then served as Director of Grants and |
| 14 | | Contracts at the City Colleges of Chicago; he was also a |
| 15 | | published author who frequently contributed to the Chicago |
| 16 | | Tribune; and
|
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Leonard Etlinger earned a black belt in judo and |
| 18 | | loved playing racquetball and tennis, and he was skilled at |
| 19 | | barbecuing turkey; he was interested in gadgets and technology |
| 20 | | and was an avid science fiction reader; he enjoyed traveling, |
| 21 | | including to England, Greece, Russia, Canada, and all over the |
| 22 | | U.S.; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Leonard Etlinger was known as a generous and |
| 2 | | unique soul who had an impact on many lives throughout his |
| 3 | | career; he truly valued his family and friendships, and he was |
| 4 | | regarded as the best father and husband; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Leonard Etlinger was the husband of Fannie |
| 6 | | (Kachos) Etlinger; the father of Thomas Etlinger and Megan |
| 7 | | Etlinger; the brother of Joseph (Susan) Etlinger and the late |
| 8 | | Stephen Etlinger; the brother-in-law of George (the late |
| 9 | | Janet) Kachos and John Kachos; the uncle of Ari (Amanda) |
| 10 | | Etlinger, Benjamin (Stacey) Etlinger, Matthew Etlinger, Sheila |
| 11 | | (Joe) Guinta, Stephanie Kachos, Don Carlos, the late Michael |
| 12 | | (Mary) Carlos, and Anthony (Marisol) Carlos; and the |
| 13 | | great-uncle, cousin, and friend of many; therefore, be it
|
| 14 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
| 15 | | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 16 | | we mourn the passing of Leonard Elias Etlinger, Ph.D. and |
| 17 | | extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all |
| 18 | | who knew and loved him; and be it further

| 19 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 20 | | presented to the family of Leonard Etlinger as an expression |
| 21 | | of our deepest sympathy. |
