| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Gail Dunkel on her | ||||||
| 4 | retirement on December 31, 2024 and thank her for her 27 years | ||||||
| 5 | of dedicated service to the Illinois General Assembly and the | ||||||
| 6 | people of Illinois; and | ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, Gail Dunkel was born Gail Lynn Jones in | ||||||
| 8 | Beardstown on January 12, 1964, the sixth child to parents | ||||||
| 9 | Richard J. Jones and Imogene J. VanHaning; and | ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Gail Dunkel was raised in Beardstown, where she | ||||||
| 11 | played three years of high school basketball and two years of | ||||||
| 12 | high school volleyball and was the captain of the pompom team; | ||||||
| 13 | and | ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Gail Dunkel worked as a meat cutter and then meat | ||||||
| 15 | inspector for Oscar Meyer before joining her sister, Jody, in | ||||||
| 16 | running a local restaurant, the Side Door Cafe; and | ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, Gail Dunkel is a proud mother of two boys, | ||||||
| 18 | Brandon and Reese, and she raised them on her own in Arenzville | ||||||
| 19 | after her husband, Dale E. Dunkel, passed away; and | ||||||
| 20 | WHEREAS, Gail Dunkel moved to Springfield in 1998 and | ||||||

| 1 | started her time in the Illinois General Assembly by working | ||||||
| 2 | for two years at an information desk before moving to the House | ||||||
| 3 | Post Office in 2000; and | ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, Gail Dunkel, throughout her extensive career with | ||||||
| 5 | the General Assembly, worked under two House Speakers and | ||||||
| 6 | three chiefs of staff; and | ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, Gail Dunkel, during her time in the House Post | ||||||
| 8 | Office, has helped coordinate hundreds of thousands of pieces | ||||||
| 9 | of mail on behalf of members of the General Assembly; and | ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Gail Dunkel has been known to everyone who worked | ||||||
| 11 | with her as a kind and courteous member of staff who was both | ||||||
| 12 | diligent in her assigned duties and always willing to go | ||||||
| 13 | beyond her remit to help other people; and | ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Gail Dunkel is retiring to enjoy her winters in | ||||||
| 15 | Gulf Shores, Alabama and her summers boating on the Illinois | ||||||
| 16 | River; therefore, be it | ||||||
| 17 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 18 | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 19 | we congratulate Gail Dunkel on the occasion of her retirement, | ||||||
| 20 | we thank her for her many years of dedicated service to the | ||||||
| 21 | Illinois General Assembly and the people of the State of | ||||||

| 1 | Illinois, and we wish her many happy and healthy retirement | ||||||
| 2 | years; and be it further | ||||||
| 3 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of the resolution be | ||||||
| 4 | presented to Gail Dunkel as a symbol of our esteem and respect. | ||||||
