| 7 | | WHEREAS, Sones de Mexico Ensemble has promoted greater |
| 8 | | appreciation of Mexican folk and traditional music through |
| 9 | | innovative performances and education; and |
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Sones de Mexico Ensemble held its first public |
| 11 | | performance at Taller Mexicano de Grabado in Chicago's |
| 12 | | historic Pilsen neighborhood on April 9, 1994; and |
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Sones de Mexico Ensemble released its first |
| 14 | | album, Que Florezca, comprising of a four-part suite of songs |
| 15 | | based on the elements of air, water, fire, and earth, which |
| 16 | | found common denominators in other ethnic traditions around |
| 17 | | Chicago and encouraged cross-cultural collaborations; and |
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Sones de Mexico Ensemble's subsequent albums, |
| 19 | | Fandango on 18th Street, Esta Tierra es Tuya, Fiesta Mexicana, |
| 20 | | Viva La Revolucion, and 13 B'ak'tun, all broke new ground |
