| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate author Philip A. Aleo for | ||||||
| 4 | his dedication to preserving local history and telling the | ||||||
| 5 | stories of local communities in Illinois and the United | ||||||
| 6 | States; and | ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, Philip Aleo was born in Chicago and has resided | ||||||
| 8 | in Dundee Township his entire life; he has developed passions | ||||||
| 9 | for history, photography, and travel, combining these | ||||||
| 10 | interests to become an author who has written and published | ||||||
| 11 | over two dozen historical and photographic books; and | ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, As an author, Philip Aleo has focused prominently | ||||||
| 13 | on local history, avidly researching and documenting the | ||||||
| 14 | stories of intriguing buildings, landmarks, and people in | ||||||
| 15 | local communities, including Carpentersville, Dundee Township, | ||||||
| 16 | Galena, and Sleepy Hollow in Illinois and Durango, Ouray, | ||||||
| 17 | Silverton, and the ghost town of St. Elmo in Colorado; and | ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, Philip Aleo's first publication, Dundee Township, | ||||||
| 19 | Moments Frozen In Time, began as a project of personal | ||||||
| 20 | interest with no intentions of becoming a book but grew into a | ||||||
| 21 | publication when he recognized his interests in history and | ||||||
| 22 | photography could be used to help the local community preserve | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | and celebrate its past by documenting Dundee Township through | ||||||
| 2 | photographic history, including East and West Dundee, Old | ||||||
| 3 | Carpentersville, and Meadowdale; and | ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, Philip Aleo has also recently published two works | ||||||
| 5 | about Abraham Lincoln, including Abraham Lincoln - Forgotten | ||||||
| 6 | Stories of His Life, detailing Lincoln's life through nearly | ||||||
| 7 | 50 short stories that originally appeared in Illinois | ||||||
| 8 | newspapers, and Lincoln's New Salem State Historic Site, | ||||||
| 9 | telling the story of the village where Lincoln once lived and | ||||||
| 10 | the historic site's reconstruction; and | ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Philip Aleo is an avid researcher who not only | ||||||
| 12 | writes his own books but also completes all photography, photo | ||||||
| 13 | restoration, book and cover design, and formatting for his | ||||||
| 14 | works; therefore, be it | ||||||
| 15 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 16 | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 17 | we congratulate Philip A. Aleo for his passion and dedication | ||||||
| 18 | to preserving local history through telling the stories of | ||||||
| 19 | people and places in local communities; and be it further | ||||||
| 20 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 21 | presented to Philip Aleo as a symbol of our esteem and respect. | ||||||
