HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate Paul Schaefer on the 
4occasion of his induction into the Edwardsville High School 
5Athletic Hall of Fame; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Paul Schaefer was born and raised in 
7Edwardsville; he served as the starting center for the 
8Edwardsville High School Tigers basketball team for three 
9seasons, and, before the introduction of the three-point line, 
10he amassed a total of 1,482 points, a record that still stands 
11as 2nd all-time in program history; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Paul Schaefer played a significant role in 
13leading the Tigers to a regional championship in each of his 
14four seasons with the team, and in 1982, he earned all-state 
15honors for his prowess on the court; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Paul Schaefer earned a scholarship to the 
17University of Evansville, where he thrived with his 
18consistency in the paint, averaging over six points and four 
19rebounds per game and starting 72 contests for the Purple 
20Aces; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Paul Schaefer's son, Mark, carried on the family

1tradition as a starter on the 2006 team that posted a 30 and 1 
2record and made it to the state quarterfinals, a new feat for 
3the Schaefer family; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Paul Schaefer, a steward of downstate Illinois, 
5has made his home in Edwardsville for over 35 years, with over 
63 decades of service to the members of Local 881 UFCW, and has 
7an ongoing positive impact on working families in his 
8community; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
10HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
11we congratulate Paul Schaefer on his induction into the 
12Edwardsville High School Athletic Hall of Fame; and be it 
13further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
15presented to Paul Schaefer as an expression of our esteem and 
16respect.
