HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Rockford 
4Police Department K9 Officer Nyx, who was killed in the line of 
5duty on January 28, 2024; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Nyx was a seven-year-old Belgian Malinois from 
7Belarus who completed her training in 2018 before joining the 
8department on October 1st of that same year; she was trained in 
9narcotics detection, evidence recovery, human tracking, and 
10apprehension; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Nyx was a trailblazer in the Rockford Police 
12Department; she was the first female dog that provided these 
13services in the Rockford community; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Nyx and her partner, Officer Vargas, were 
15dedicated to protecting and serving their community and 
16apprehending violent offenders; Officer Vargas is left with 
17the responsibility of carrying out their duties in her honor; 
18therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
20HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
21we mourn the passing of Nyx and extend our sincere condolences

1to Officer Vargas, the Rockford Police Department, and all 
2those who loved her; and be it further
 
3    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be 
4presented to the Rockford Police Department and Officer Vargas 
5as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
