HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate the Chicago Chapter of 
4the National Black Nurses Association (CCNBNA) on the occasion 
5of the 50th anniversary of its founding; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The CCNBNA was established in 1973 by Christine 
7Leak in response to the challenges witnessed by Black nurses 
8caring for Black people in the areas of sickle cell, 
9hypertension, diabetes, cancer, pregnancies, alcoholism, and 
10inadequate nutritional intake; and
 
11    WHEREAS, These initial efforts led to an increase in 
12community-based, volunteer-based community, healthcare 
13programs within Black communities which in turn led to an 
14increase in community-centered collaborations and networking 
15with organizations caring for persons of color; and
 
16    WHEREAS, This also led to an increase in CCNBNA's 
17involvement with aldermanic offices and in health-related 
18activities as well as with the City of Chicago's Department of 
19Public Health and Gilda's Place; and
 
20    WHEREAS, The CCNBNA has increased its involvement with 
21undergraduate nursing programs and their student population;

2    WHEREAS, The CCNBNA organizes trips to Springfield to 
3educate its junior members and student nurse members on the 
4importance of conveying their concerns to their legislative 
5officials; therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
7HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
8we congratulate the Chicago Chapter of the National Black 
9Nurses Association (CCNBNA) on its 50th anniversary and wish 
10them many more successful years; and be it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
12presented to the CCNBNA as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
