HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate Southwestern Illinois 
4College Sam Wolf Granite City Campus on the occasion of the 
540th anniversary of its founding; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The Granite City Center opened in 1983, occupying 
7the previous Granite City North High School building; aviation 
8maintenance was the first program as training moved from the 
9Cahokia Airport to the Granite City Center; along with 
10aviation maintenance, machining and a few transfer courses 
11were offered; and
 
12    WHEREAS, The Granite City Center received approval from 
13the Illinois Community College Board to become the Granite 
14City Campus of Belleville Area College in 1985; the campus 
15offered a robust curriculum, including transfer and industrial 
16training programs to support the local industries, along with 
17community interest courses and adult education; and
 
18    WHEREAS, The Granite City campus gymnasium was converted 
19into an industrial training center in 1992; the new facility 
20opened and supported expanded programming in areas such as 
21pipefitting, electronics, welding, appliance repair and 
22heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration repair in 1994;

2    WHEREAS, Belleville Area College was renamed Southwestern 
3Illinois College in 2000 to more closely align with the region 
4served; and
 
5    WHEREAS, To honor Southwestern Illinois College Trustee 
6and former Illinois House of Representative Sam Wolf for his 
7long-time dedication to higher education and the residents of 
8Southern Illinois, the college renamed the Granite City Campus 
9as the Sam Wolf Granite City Campus in 2006; and
 
10    WHEREAS, The Sam Wolf Granite City Campus remains a 
11premier educational institution offering a wide array of 
12career and technical education programs in industrial trades 
13and health care and transfer courses; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
15HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
16we congratulate Southwestern Illinois College Sam Wolf Granite 
17City Campus on its 40th anniversary and wish them many more 
18wonderful years; and be it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
20presented to Southwestern Illinois College Sam Wolf Granite 
21City Campus as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
