| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
|
| 3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate Anita Gilkey on the
|
| 4 | | occasion of her retirement from the Chicago Park District; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Anita Gilkey grew up on the southeast side of |
| 6 | | Chicago in the Calumet Heights community, where she learned |
| 7 | | how to play softball and baseball; she played on boys and co-ed |
| 8 | | teams all over the city; she excelled in 11 inch fast pitch |
| 9 | | softball at Kenwood Academy High School, where she also played |
| 10 | | basketball; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Anita Gilkey received an athletic scholarship to |
| 12 | | play basketball at Chicago State University, where she also |
| 13 | | played softball and received a bachelor's degree in |
| 14 | | recreation; she earned a master's degree in the administration |
| 15 | | of physical education and sports from the University of |
| 16 | | Illinois at Chicago; she then received her Illinois State |
| 17 | | teaching certificate and worked as a substitute teacher in the |
| 18 | | public schools; and
|
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Anita Gilkey was hired by the Chicago Park |
| 20 | | District as an hourly physical instructor in May 1989; through |
| 21 | | her subsequent 34 year career, she advanced through a variety |
| 22 | | of positions, including monthly physical instructor, |
