HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Maureen Wener of the Village of Deerfield, who passed away on June 2, 2023; and

WHEREAS, Maureen Wener was born in Chicago; she earned an undergraduate degree from the University of Kansas and a master's degree from Northeastern University; and

WHEREAS, Maureen Wener led a tremendous career as a public servant, taking her first position in public service as a legislative chief of staff in 1999; and

WHEREAS, Maureen Wener previously served as a trustee and president of the Deerfield Library Board, and she also served on its Executive Committee; she was instrumental in the creation of the Deerfield Public Library 2017-2019 Strategic Plan, which enhanced the reputation of the library by implementing improvements and innovative services to maintain the library as a thriving part of the community; and

WHEREAS, Maureen Wener additionally served her community through her election to the Deerfield Public School District 109 Board of Education, where she served as secretary; and

WHEREAS, Maureen Wener was a mentor and friend to everyone who knew her, reforming the community through education and her commitment to helping those who needed it most; and

WHEREAS, Maureen Wener will be remembered as a wife and mother who dedicated her life to supporting her family and serving her community; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Maureen Wener and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Maureen Wener as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
