HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate Evelyn Lust, a sixth 
4grader from John C. Coonley Elementary School, on the occasion 
5of her placing second in the 2023 Chicago Public Schools 
6Citywide Spelling Bee Championship; and
  
 
7    WHEREAS, The CPS Citywide Spelling Bee Championship was 
8held at Lindblom Math and Science Academy on March 2, 2023; the 
9competition provides an opportunity for students across 
10Chicago to meet, engage, and learn from one another; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, Evelyn Lust first won a spelling bee in her sixth 
12grade classroom and then won a school-wide spelling bee at 
13John C. Coonley Elementary School before placing in the top 50 
14of all school-wide winners to advance to the CPS Citywide 
15Spelling Bee Championship; and
  
 
16    WHEREAS, Evelyn Lust correctly spelled the words pileus, 
17colubrine, synanthrope, Namibian, and raclette to progress to 
18the 22nd round; and
  
 
19    WHEREAS, Evelyn Lust was guided by John C. Coonley 
20Elementary School Principal Brennen Humphrey and teacher Laura 
21Parsons, two individuals who foster a meritorious environment

1that promotes success within the student body; and
  
 
2    WHEREAS, This marks the second time Evelyn Lust has 
3represented John C. Coonley Elementary School in the CPS 
4Citywide Spelling Bee Championship; therefore, be it
  
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
6HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
7we congratulate Evelyn Lust from John C. Coonley Elementary 
8School on her outstanding accomplishment in the 2023 Chicago 
9Public Schools Citywide Spelling Bee Championship; and be it

11    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be 
12presented to Evelyn Lust and John C. Coonley Elementary School 
13as an expression of our esteem and respect.
