HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate the John A. Logan College 
4men's basketball team, the Volunteers, located in Carterville, 
5on winning the 2023 National Junior College Athletic 
6Association (NJCAA) Division I National Championship; and
  
 
7    WHEREAS, The John A. Logan College men's basketball team 
8amassed an impressive 33-2 record, including winning four 
9games in six days on its way to the first national championship 
10in program history and only the second championship in 
11Illinois history; and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, The John A. Logan College men's basketball team 
13is led by Head Coach Tyler Smithpeters, Assistant Coach Tadd 
14Andrews, and Assistant Coach Marcus Walker, who all worked 
15tirelessly to build team chemistry and lead the team to a 
16record-breaking championship season; for his efforts, Coach 
17Smithpeters was named the 2022-23 NJCAA Division I Men's 
18Basketball Coach of the Year; and
  
 
19    WHEREAS, The John A. Logan College  men's basketball team 
20is comprised of James Dent, Rayzhaun Bardo, Quimari Peterson, 
21Elijah Jones, Sean Smith, Justin Cross, Teon Nesbitt, Grant 
22Jones, Isaiah Stafford, Eli Downen, Elliot Lowndes, KJ

1Debrick, and the 2022-23 NJCAA Division I Men's Basketball 
2Player of the Year, Curt Lewis; therefore, be it
  
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
4HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
5we congratulate the John A. Logan College men's basketball 
6team, the Volunteers, on winning the 2023 National Junior 
7College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I National 
8Championship; and be it further
  
 
9    RESOLVED, That we congratulate those who helped build the 
10John A. Logan men's basketball program into a championship 
11team, including the fans, coaches, players, support staff, and 
12administrators; and be it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That we wish the John A. Logan College men's 
14basketball team the very best of luck in continuing to build a 
15successful program well into the future; and be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
17presented to the John A. Logan College men's basketball team, 
18the Volunteers, as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
