| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate the City of Countryside |
| 4 | | for its Municipal Complex being officially certified as a net |
| 5 | | zero energy building, the first municipal building in Illinois |
| 6 | | to achieve this designation; and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, A zero energy building generates 100% of the |
| 8 | | energy it consumes on an annual basis through on-site |
| 9 | | renewable energy; through a combination of creating renewable |
| 10 | | energy while reducing energy demand, buildings can operate |
| 11 | | efficiently enough to meet this goal; buildings are certified |
| 12 | | by the International Living Future Institute and require |
| 13 | | strict documentation review by a third-party auditor; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, The Municipal Complex was certified a net zero |
| 15 | | energy building by the International Living Future Institute |
| 16 | | in 2022; and
|
| 17 | | WHEREAS, The building is 35,020 square feet and has design |
| 18 | | elements that include air barriers, green roofing, LED |
| 19 | | lighting with motion sensors, and solar and geothermal energy; |
| 20 | | there are 636 solar panels on the roof and car ports, |
| 21 | | geothermal wells are drilled 450 feet down where temperatures |
| 22 | | remain constant, and the landscaping includes drought tolerant |
