HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate the City of Countryside for its Municipal Complex being officially certified as a net zero energy building, the first municipal building in Illinois to achieve this designation; and

WHEREAS, A zero energy building generates 100% of the energy it consumes on an annual basis through on-site renewable energy; through a combination of creating renewable energy while reducing energy demand, buildings can operate efficiently enough to meet this goal; buildings are certified by the International Living Future Institute and require strict documentation review by a third-party auditor; and

WHEREAS, The Municipal Complex was certified a net zero energy building by the International Living Future Institute in 2022; and

WHEREAS, The building is 35,020 square feet and has design elements that include air barriers, green roofing, LED lighting with motion sensors, and solar and geothermal energy; there are 636 solar panels on the roof and car ports, geothermal wells are drilled 450 feet down where temperatures remain constant, and the landscaping includes drought tolerant plantings native to Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Zero energy buildings contribute much less greenhouse gas into the atmosphere, helping to preserve the ozone layer and to prevent increased global warming; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the City of Countryside for its Municipal Complex being certified as a net zero energy building; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Mayor of Countryside as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
