| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are deeply saddened to learn of the death of | ||||||
| 4 | A. George Hovanec of Springfield, who passed away on Sunday, | ||||||
| 5 | January 8, 2023, after a valiant battle with pancreatic | ||||||
| 6 | cancer; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, George Hovanec graduated from Indiana University | ||||||
| 8 | of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science and from The Ohio | ||||||
| 9 | State University with a Master of Public Administration; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, In 1978, George Hovanec began his career as | ||||||
| 11 | Deputy Director of the Illinois Bureau of Budget; he then | ||||||
| 12 | served as State Medicaid Director and as interim Director of | ||||||
| 13 | the Illinois Department of Public Aid, where he was revered as | ||||||
| 14 | an outstanding public servant; and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, Since 2005, George Hovanec had been a highly | ||||||
| 16 | respected advisor to both Children's Memorial Hospital/Ann & | ||||||
| 17 | Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago and the | ||||||
| 18 | Community Behavioral Healthcare Association of Illinois; and
| ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, Among his many noteworthy achievements, George | ||||||
| 20 | Hovanec served in a critical role as an advisor analyzing | ||||||
| 21 | Medicaid access and funding and had a direct and material | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | impact on the health and well-being of the children and | ||||||
| 2 | families in Illinois; and
| ||||||
| 3 | WHEREAS, Throughout his career, George Hovanec earned the | ||||||
| 4 | respect of leading policymakers across the nation for his vast | ||||||
| 5 | experience and expertise in state and federal Medicaid policy; | ||||||
| 6 | and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, George Hovanec was a man of strong faith, a | ||||||
| 8 | devout Catholic; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, George Hovanec loved to organize games of golf | ||||||
| 10 | and softball with friends and was an ardent fan of the | ||||||
| 11 | Pittsburgh Steelers; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, George Hovanec's contributions as a brilliant, | ||||||
| 13 | thoughtful, hard-working, humble, humorous, generous, and | ||||||
| 14 | compassionate person will be greatly missed by all who were | ||||||
| 15 | privileged to know him; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 16 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 17 | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 18 | we mourn the passing of A. George Hovanec and extend our | ||||||
| 19 | sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew | ||||||
| 20 | and loved him; and be it further

| 1 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 2 | presented to the family of George Hovanec as an expression of | ||||||
| 3 | our appreciation for his extraordinary life and friendship and | ||||||
