| 2 | | WHEREAS, Over 50 years after Congress passed the |
| 3 | | Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA), promising every |
| 4 | | worker the right to a safe job, the protections in OSHA have |
| 5 | | saved hundreds of thousands of lives and prevented millions of |
| 6 | | workplace injuries; and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Despite current safety laws, millions of workers |
| 8 | | are injured and thousands of workers are killed due to job |
| 9 | | hazards each year; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, On April 28, 2023, organized labor will observe |
| 11 | | Workers Memorial Day across the country to remember those who |
| 12 | | have suffered and died on the job and to renew the fight for |
| 13 | | safe workplaces for all workers; therefore, be it
|
| 14 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
| 15 | | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 16 | | we declare April 28, 2023 as Workers Memorial Day in the State |
| 17 | | of Illinois; and be it further |
| 18 | | RESOLVED, That we recognize that as long as workers are |
| 19 | | seriously injured or killed on the job, there will be a need to |
| 20 | | support stronger safety and health laws in our State and |
| 21 | | country; and be it further |
