| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate the Jacksonville High |
| 4 | | School dance team, the J'ettes, on winning the 2023 Illinois |
| 5 | | High School Association (IHSA) Class 1A Competitive Dance |
| 6 | | Championship; and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, The IHSA Class 1A Competitive Dance Division, |
| 8 | | which is divided into five sectionals consisting of |
| 9 | | approximately 80 dance teams, was held at the Grossinger |
| 10 | | Motors Arena in Bloomington from January 27 to January 28, |
| 11 | | 2023; and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, The J'ettes passed the preliminary round on |
| 13 | | January 27, where the top 30 teams competed for the final 12 |
| 14 | | spots, advancing to compete in the finals on January 28; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, The J'ettes finished with a score of 92.40, just |
| 16 | | edging ahead of Morris Community High School, which scored |
| 17 | | 92.35; and
|
| 18 | | WHEREAS, The J'ettes made history by earning the top spot |
| 19 | | in the IHSA Class 1A Competitive Dance Division, giving |
| 20 | | Jacksonville High School its first IHSA team championship |
| 21 | | since its 1988 volleyball team; and
|
|

| 1 | | WHEREAS, The J'ettes worked hard all year long, starting |
| 2 | | with Dance Camp in the summer; the team has additionally |
| 3 | | hosted an annual Kiddie Camp, held fundraising events, and led |
| 4 | | Radio Day; in the fall, the team participated in several |
| 5 | | parades, pep rallies, football games, and a fall dance clinic; |
| 6 | | and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, This season, the J'ettes successfully competed in |
| 8 | | three different organizations, IHSA, the Illinois Drill Team |
| 9 | | Association (IDTA), and the Universal Dance Association (UDA); |
| 10 | | and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, At the 2023 IDTA State Finals, the J'ettes were |
| 12 | | named champions in the AA Lyrical/Contemporary category and |
| 13 | | placed 2nd in the AA Open Pom and 3rd in the AA Grand |
| 14 | | Champions; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, At the 2023 UDA National Dance Team Nationals in |
| 16 | | Orlando, Florida, the J'ettes ranked 12th in both the Large |
| 17 | | Varsity – Jazz and Large Varsity - Pom categories; and
|
| 18 | | WHEREAS, The J'ettes' spectacular showcase at the IHSA |
| 19 | | Class 1A Competitive Dance Finals made its hometown of |
| 20 | | Jacksonville extremely proud, and its dancers' hard work and |
| 21 | | determination to win will never be forgotten; and
|

| 1 | | WHEREAS, The J'ettes are led by Coaches Tiffany Hickox and |
| 2 | | Allyson Maul and Manager Marley VanAken; and
|
| 3 | | WHEREAS, The J'ettes team consists of 19 dancers, |
| 4 | | including six seniors, Co-captains Leah Hoffman and Ella |
| 5 | | Stremming and Squad Leaders Meredith Gallo, Anna Muller, Gwen |
| 6 | | Poole, and Issy Woods; five juniors, Squad Leaders Kate |
| 7 | | Alexander and Lindsey Hautala and members Lily Rohlk, Jacey |
| 8 | | Evans, and Kimmy Davis; six sophomores, Squad Leaders |
| 9 | | Elizabeth Stremming and Emma Wolters and members Kylie |
| 10 | | Chumley, Samantha Lawson, Hailey Weeks, and Gianna Williams; |
| 11 | | and two freshmen, Greta Bryson-Adams and Lily Hickox; |
| 12 | | therefore, be it

| 13 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
| 14 | | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 15 | | we congratulate the Jacksonville High School dance team, the |
| 16 | | J'ettes, on winning the 2023 Illinois High School Association |
| 17 | | Class 1A Competitive Dance Championship; and be it further
|
| 18 | | RESOLVED, That we wish the J'ettes future success and many |
| 19 | | more triumphant seasons to come; and be it further
|
| 20 | | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be |
| 21 | | presented to the J'ettes' coaches and team members as a symbol |
