| 1 | | HOUSE RESOLUTION
|
| 2 | | WHEREAS, This year will mark the 35th anniversary of the |
| 3 | | establishment and recognition of National Black Nurses Day by |
| 4 | | the 101st United States Congress; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Black people have long been active in the nursing |
| 6 | | field in the U.S.; currently, they comprise 6.7% of the total |
| 7 | | nursing population and practice in a variety of areas, |
| 8 | | including clinical, education, administrative, research, |
| 9 | | government, and private enterprise; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Black nurses have made significant contributions |
| 11 | | to the nursing profession; as attention to the health care |
| 12 | | problems of minorities and the poor increases, Black nurses |
| 13 | | can be credited for establishing an environment of quality, |
| 14 | | service, and skill that patients have come to expect from |
| 15 | | health care practitioners; and
|
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Since February honors the contributions made to |
| 17 | | this country by Black Americans, it is fitting that Black |
| 18 | | nurses be recognized and honored for their outstanding |
| 19 | | contributions to our communities and our country; therefore, |
| 20 | | be it
