| 1 | | AN ACT concerning health.
|
| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
| 4 | | Section 5. The University of Illinois Hospital Act is |
| 5 | | amended by adding Section 8h as follows:
|
| 6 | | (110 ILCS 330/8h new) |
| 7 | | Sec. 8h. Emergency room treatment; delay of treatment |
| 8 | | prohibition. Notwithstanding any provision of law to the |
| 9 | | contrary, the University of Illinois Hospital, in accordance |
| 10 | | with Section 1395dd(a) and 1395dd(b) of the Social Security |
| 11 | | Act, shall not delay provisions of a required appropriate |
| 12 | | medical screening examination or further medical examination |
| 13 | | and treatment for a patient in a University of Illinois |
| 14 | | Hospital emergency room in order to inquire about the |
| 15 | | individual's method of payment or insurance status.

| 16 | | Section 10. The Hospital Licensing Act is amended by |
| 17 | | adding Section 6.34 as follows:
