| 1 |  |     AN ACT concerning State government.
  
 | 
| 2 |  |     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
  | 
| 3 |  | represented in the General Assembly:
  
 
 | 
| 4 |  |     Section 5. The Law Enforcement and Fire Fighting Medal of  | 
| 5 |  | Honor Act is amended  by changing Section 2001 as follows:
 
 | 
| 6 |  |     (20 ILCS 3985/2001)  (from Ch. 127, par. 3852-1)
 | 
| 7 |  |     Sec. 2001. 
There is created the Law Enforcement Medal of  | 
| 8 |  | Honor
Committee, referred to in this Article as the Committee.   | 
| 9 |  | The Committee
shall consist of the Director of the Illinois  | 
| 10 |  | State Police, who shall serve as chair, the
Superintendent of  | 
| 11 |  | the Chicago Police Department, the Executive Director of
the  | 
| 12 |  | Illinois Law Enforcement Training
Standards Board,
and the  | 
| 13 |  | following persons appointed by the Governor:  a sheriff, a  | 
| 14 |  | chief of
police from other than Chicago, a representative of a  | 
| 15 |  | statewide law
enforcement officer organization and a retired  | 
| 16 |  | Illinois law enforcement
officer.  Of the appointed members,  | 
| 17 |  | the sheriff and police chief shall each
serve a 2-year term and  | 
| 18 |  | the organization representative and retired officer
shall each  | 
| 19 |  | serve a one-year term.  The Governor shall appoint initial
 | 
| 20 |  | members within 3 months of the effective date of this Act.  | 
| 21 |  | Notwithstanding any provision in this
Section to the contrary,  | 
| 22 |  | the term of office of each
Committee member is
abolished on  | 
| 23 |  | October 1, 2023.
