| 1 | | AN ACT concerning safety.
|
| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
| 4 | | Section 5. The Environmental Protection Act is amended by |
| 5 | | adding Section 14.8 as follows:
|
| 6 | | (415 ILCS 5/14.8 new) |
| 7 | | Sec. 14.8. Recycled sewage treatment plant effluent reuse. |
| 8 | | By January 1, 2024, the Agency shall propose and, within one |
| 9 | | year after receipt of the Agency's proposal, the Board shall |
| 10 | | adopt: |
| 11 | | (1) amendments to the Board's primary drinking water |
| 12 | | standards that will repeal the prohibition on the use of |
| 13 | | recycled sewage treatment plant effluent set forth in |
| 14 | | subsection (c) of 35 Ill. Adm. Code 611.231 and that will |
| 15 | | make any other revisions to those rules that are necessary |
| 16 | | to facilitate water reuse in the State; and |
| 17 | | (2) rules establishing programs for both direct |
| 18 | | potable and nonpotable reuse of treated wastewater, |
| 19 | | including rules establishing permitting standards and a |
| 20 | | permit application process.

| 21 | | Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon |
| 22 | | becoming law.
|
