SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Michael C. Langendorf, who passed away on February 8, 2022; and

WHEREAS, Michael Langendorf was born in Chicago on November 3, 1953 and lived in Northbrook; he received his Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Master of Social Work at the University of Illinois; he was married to the love of his life, Sheri (Didech) Langendorf, for 45 years; and

WHEREAS, Michael Langendorf was a proud school social worker/psychiatric social worker; he worked for the Department of Children and Family Services and the Oak Therapeutic School in Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Upon moving to central Illinois, Michael Langendorf worked at the Cunningham Children's Home in Urbana, St. Elizabeth Hospital in Danville, Private Mental Health Associates in Danville, the Ford-Iroquois Special Education Cooperative, the Vermilion Association for Special Education, and the University of Illinois Laboratory High School; he also served as an adjunct instructor for the University of Illinois School of Social Work and an Administrative Law Judge/Due Process Hearing Officer for the Illinois Department of Education; and

WHEREAS, Michael Langendorf served on several committees and boards; he was the Legislative Chair for the Illinois Association of School Social Workers for over 20 years; he was passionate about passing laws and providing services for students and was a champion for the field of school social work; he served on the Governor's Early Childhood Mental Health Committee, the Star/Net Mini-Grant review Committee, the Novice Teacher Support Project Steering Committee, the U of I School of Social Work Advisory Committee, the U of I Council on Teacher Education Committee, the VASE Autism Team, the Vermilion County Emergency/Crisis Intervention Team, and the Vermilion County Early Intervention Council; and

WHEREAS, Michael Langendorf advocated for students by voluntarily attending school conferences and staffings, by mediating for children to ensure they received appropriate services, and by supporting and coaching parents for hours on the telephone as they advocated for their children; he also served as the chair of the Champaign-Urbana Jewish Federation's Human Services Committee; and

WHEREAS, Michael Langendorf was a fabulous chef and took pride in the meals he served to his friends and family; no cooking task was too small or too great, whether he was cooking hot dogs for a soccer team or cooking a Thanksgiving dinner for 100s at school; he had a special talent for making everyone he met feel important and special, and he always opened his heart and his home to anyone in need; he loved keeping in touch with everyone and would call, text, and Facebook message at all hours of the day, always expressing how much the people in his life meant to him; and

WHEREAS, Michael Langendorf was the loving and doting father of Emily (Daniel) Mysel and the incredible "Zee" to Max and Eli Mysel; he was the devoted son of the late Estelle (Jacobson) and the late Sheldon Langendorf and the loving son-in-law of Beverly and the late Marvin Didech; he was the dearest big brother to Robert Langendorf and brother-in-law to Dean (Marleen) Didech and Gregg Didech; he was the fond uncle of Amy (Bobby) White, Kevin (Mimi) Langendorf, and Kate (Chris Barnett), Daniel (Jen), Adam (Lauren), Scott (Deanna), Madeleine, and Makenna Didech and the great uncle to Jackson White, Parker Barnett, and Theo Didech; he was the chosen brother of David Jacobson, best friend to Glenn Weiss for the last 66 years, and dedicated and caring friend to so many; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Michael C. Langendorf and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Michael Langendorf as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
